WELCOME to CAROLINA PANACHE! I believe our homes should be a haven, a place of beauty and peace that reflect who we are and what's important to us. I'm on a journey to add personality and panache to every corner of my house. For me, good design evolves, grows and changes with the needs of one's lifestyle. I want my home to be creative, to be stylish, to be entertaining, to be real. I hope you will join me on my journey. It's always more fun to travel together.
This blog is all about bringing style and elegance to the home. The art of dressing your home goes beyond hanging a few items on the wall and arranging furniture. Much like a fabulous set of earrings or a new stylish handbag may take your little black dress from fine to fabulous, home accesories and key furnishings can take your rooms from ho-hum to singing the Halleluiah Chorus! Join with me as we discover new ways to add panache to every room of the house.

Mastering the Master Bedroom - Part 3

Welcome to "Metamorphosis Monday". This blog party is all about creating a metamorphosis of your own kind, great or small, it's your call! A big thank you to Susan at Between Naps on the Porch for playing hostess. For more great changes, visit her for the complete list of participants.
Today I wanted to share some pictures from my Master Bedroom re-do. When I moved in to this house about 2 1/2 years ago, everything was "builder beige". With so many areas needing attention and so much "blank canvas" space, I turned my attentions to the common living areas of the home first. The plan was to move upstairs to the private quarters of the house once the downstairs was complete. That has taken 2 years! But right before Christmas last year, I was inspired to add some color to the walls and change the pallet from reds and creams to gold and slate blue. Blue is hubby's favorite color but until now I had not used it in our home's decor. The first year we were married, we rented a place that was mostly blue. I guess I got my fill of that hue back then. Slowly, I moved in the direction of earthy Autumn colors and seem very content to stay there. I feel that the combination of gold, stone and slate is a happy compromise. This was the neglected bedding. I was simply using a quilt that my mother had given me with an assortment of pillows.
As you see from this picture, things were a little blah with no real warmth or style direction.

The re-do started with painting the walls a warm Spiced Cider. Animal prints added texture and visual interest. Antique gold accents added "glam" to the space.
A large round mirror and vanity wall shelf added a new twist to the dressing table and provided space for pretty bottles and accessories.
New bedding in gold, platinum and slate was a big change from the "granny quilt" look. The wall at the head of the bed was painted a darker hue than the other three walls. This color is called "Stony Creek". A gold jacquard window scarf was used over the bed to soften the headboard and add a look of luxury.
Tailored window panels in dark blue and gold damask were added next to semi-sheer gold panels to soften the window and control light.
These black framed initials were a b-day gift from my BFF. I loved the way they contrast with the gold frame of the mirror and tie in the black accents of the animal print.
A trio of gold framed mirrors were added over the two night stands. A collection of accessories, family photos and books find a home on top of the table. Our room has a large master bath and similar colors and patterns were used to tie in to the rest of the suite. I found this adorable bench at a Ross store. I've used it around the house in various settings. I think I like it best here in the bath.
A collection of slate blue, animal print and ivory towels add color to the garden tub. A printed shower curtain in soft blue, taupe, slate, gray and ivory was used to soften the window behind the tub.
I like to accessorize my vanities. I place family photos, candles and other favorite things close by to always remind me of the blessing of home and hearth. I still have a few small projects to complete - like painting the tray ceiling, adding a new overhead light fixture and medallion, and another source of storage. I also like to change my bedding and window treatments for the seasons. That is why I chose to paint the walls a warm neutral shade. It makes changing bedding and pillows on a whim easy. Once spring arrives I will do a quick change of bedding and accessories for a fresh, soft look befitting of the warmer months ahead.
This week on Carolina Panache, we will feature a "Junk to Gems" post showing how a cast away chest of drawers is changed into a "black pearl" of great price, The Cook's Corner where we will cook up some down-home flavor Mexican style, Outdoor Wednesday will take a stroll through the garden and Tablescape Thursday will take a walk along the beach at sunset. I hope you will join me. Until then,
Happy Decorating!

Hi Alisa
Fit for a Queen indeed. Love your bathroom. My main bathroom is small, but it does have an awesome claw foot tub.
It's funny you ask if there are any boys here? I'm the only girl. My hubby (who said "do what you want with color") and my 2 boys ages 16 & 18 still live with us. My eldest now has a great space of his own. We built a 10x12 guest cottage for guests, but we let him use it. Much better under a diff roof LOL
Thanks for the visit.

You have made a huge change. I'm so not a blue person either, but I just used a soft blue/green in the LR and maybe I change my mind. Your blue and gold is just gorgeous in your bdrm and bath, and as always your accessories and fabric choices make it look sooooo luxurious. Such a lovely redo. Hugs, Marty

Very regal looking, like it and normally I don't like blue or animal prints.
Great job, that wall color sure warmed it up.

Hi Alisa...

Love your "Met Monday" post! I giggled a bit while reading it because I have experienced the exact same thing with decorating with the color blue. I had so much of it in a previous home that I actually grew sick of the color...eeekks! My home now is filled with deep, rich shades of reds, olives, and golds...but a couple of summers ago I decided to redo our master bed/bath and chose the ever so popular seaside blue and browns...I love it!

Your master bedroom is exquisite...very rich and luxourious! I love all of the changes you made! Your new bedding is beautiful and I just love all of the animal print you used! Thank you for sharing this beautiful transformation!!!

Warmest wishes,
Chari

Your master bedroom is so pretty, love all the animal prints with the gold. I adore the bench at the tub! I am thinking why did I not think of that, would be so useful! lol I have a chair at my dressing table and use it mostly. Oh, I see a bench coming to my bath tub in the near future. I have four benches, but all are wood or clothe or both. Lately I have been shopping in my house or the attic. lol
